The Pope Wrestling team competed in front of the nearly 20,000 frenzied fans that witnessed three days of GHSA championship wrestling at The Arena at Gwinnett. Two Greyhounds, Cameron Munsey (113#) and Jake Henson (152#) won individual state titles as Pope swept the mat beating Archer High School by nearly 20 points and amassing a dominating 115 total points to win their second state crown.
Kennesaw Mountain was the area’s next best team, finishing in seventh place in the 5A classification.  The Mustangs also produced two state champions: Chris Murdock (126 lbs) and Justan Rivera (170 lbs). Allatoona’s Bryson Brindle took the 3A title at 220 lbs.
Considering their treacherous path advancing through regional and sectional tourneys, all of the area’s state qualifiers should be applauded for a very strong season.
